She worked as an associate veterinarian in a large/small animal practice in Davie County until 1988. She returned to her native Catawba County to work at Catawba Animal Clinic, which was operated as a satellite hospital by another Hickory veterinarian. She purchased this business in 1989.

In 1995 she merged this business with Conover Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Bumbarger's veterinary interests include internal medicine, dermatology, and pediatrics. When not working at CVH, she enjoys gardening, reading, and entertaining with family and friends. She lives in Alexander County with her husband Jack, teenage son, and an ever changing 'herd' of dogs, cats, horses, ducks, geese and chickens!
